I Feel Pretty Good About Myself

I went to the Ferguson showroom today to look at bathroom vanities, and all the other fun stuff that they have there. And I noticed something pretty awesome. In their newly remodeled working display kitchen...

So I'm feeling pretty good about my granite choice, since their designer and I picked out the same one!

No Slammy Slammy

Last night my wonderful husband installed one of the best kitchen inventions ever.

It only took about 45 minutes to do the whole kitchen. Now the whole room has soft close.

Happy Mother's Day to Me!

Yesterday I got an awesome Mother's Day gift. Four men came over and installed my kitchen counter.
My kitchen went from this

House Warming, or Cooling

My wonderful parents bought us two of these sweet babies. They're in the kids bedrooms, we are going to get two more for the living room and master bedroom.

The Huge Door Gets Smaller

The door from the kitchen to the garage, was absolutely huge. So big that it looked wrong, and it ate up valuable kitchen wall space. Everyone who saw the door commented on the proportion. So we stole about a foot from the doorway so that we could make the kitchen bigger, and make the whole kitchen/dining area, look right with the appropriate size door.

Edward found a prehung door at Home Depot and kept saying "this is too easy, this is going too well" as he removed the old door and installed the new.

Is There An Official Moving In Food?

We have no stove, microwave, or kitchen sink, and since there is so much work to do on the house, we can't go get dinner as a family. Which means, take out! Our first meal all together in the new house was Chinese food. Our second was pizza.

A Standstill

Very little is going on at the house. The kitchen cabinets have been delivered, but are not yet installed, which means the granite can't be fabricated.
The deal that we were supposed to get for some of the bathroom materials has fallen thru, it's really going to be rough on our budget not getting that deal.
I'm currently visiting my grandparents in California, I'd really like to be living in my house, but I don't have a usable kitchen.

The End is Near

The end of this stage of the House Project is really close.
While I was out of town the walls were painted, and the flooring was installed. Here's a little sneak peak of the flooring.

I'm Out of Town

My husband keeps sending me picture messages.

Here is the texture that's going on the wall. I didn't want texture, I wanted smooth walls, but we couldn't afford that. So this is what the texture looks like over the paint samples for Andrew's room.

It's actually better for me to gone when I'm not getting what I want.
And then he sent me this one, with no explanation.

Edward has poor eyesight in one eye and good eyesight in the other. Guess which one is giving him problems?
Add that to the injury he sustained on Monday

And so far Edward is having a great week. He's been to the doctor twice, which is extremely unusual for him. He's been sick once the entire time I've known him, and te only time he ever missed work was for two days after he had knee surgery.

It really is better that I'm not there. At least he doesn't have to deal with me being annoyed about the wall texture on top of a goopy eye and a sore arm.

Delivery!

The kitchen and flooring have both been delivered. I went down to Heritage to visit the cabinets, and they make my heart beat fast they're so beautiful.

Love at First Sight

Remember when I wrote about taking design quizzes? Well I have found the best way for me to pick out things I like, is to look online on my iPhone, and take screen shots of whatever grabs me. No buyers remorse, and it's like I own it because its saved (for as long as I don't delete it) on my phone and I can visit it whenever I want and then decide if it's true love or just a crush.

This was a crush, from sofacraft

This is possibly true love, I'm not sure because I haven't seen it in person. Also from sofacraft.

Another crush from sofacraft

This is true love!

And this was love at first sight, at the Thomasville store.
Love Love Love
Love the color/fabric, Love the lack of cushions, Love the scale.
Edward is also a fan, but I'm not sure if his feelings are as strong as mine.

I'm pretty sure the Thomasville settee and the "Judy" from sofa craft would look wonderful facing each other in my living room.

Pool Safety

Fence?

or

Net?

Fence Pros
1. Don't have to remove it to swim

Fence Cons
1. Ugly
2. Andrew has figured out every kind of child lock he's ever encountered, he could probably figure out the gate latch.

Net Pros
1. Not Ugly

Net Cons
1. Have to remove it completely to swim

Nieghbors

The neighbor across the street has already threatened to call the police.
Awesome.
Ours is the last house on a cul-de-sac, and on Friday afternoon an extra large dumpster was delivered. A few hours later the dumpster company got a call. The disgruntled neighbor said, "the dumpster is in the wrong position," was "blocking the flow of traffic," and "I'm going to call the police."
Eddie spoke to this neighbor once, a few weeks ago to ask him where the main water shut off was. He was very rude, but he did tell Ed where is was.
Now he's started on to threats.
He also has a cat that keeps spraying our house, and he feeds pigeons in his front yard.

It's Never Good...

It's never good to hear the electrician say "Oooohh" to the mess of wires and creative connections that are found in the walls and attic and garage of your home.
On the bright side, we now have switches that actually turn on the lights and fans IN THE SAME ROOM. The master bedroom fan switch used to be down the hall by the front door.
Eddie has been very busy.

Do You Have Strong Feelings About Your Fridge?

We were at Sears today looking at all the options we have for our fridge.
It's going to be a fight til I win.

Picking out Paint

I'm always pulling out paint chips and putting them in my purse. I narrowed the interior all color down to these three. It's really amazing how the different light changes the color.

Lights on.
Lights off.

Next to the window.

And it's really surprising how putting the paint on the wall changes the color. Don't skip the sample step in choosing paint.

The colors are in the same order as in the above pictures.

This is Like a Sickness

I spent a couple hours today looking at fabric online, trying to get a feel for what colors to decorate the house with.
Seriously QuiltHome has the best selection of fabric, and the best website.

This awesome collection is by Michael Miller. The above print comes in flannel. I think I need to make my boys some pajamas.

This collection is by Patty Young. It's called Sanctuary. I'm In Love!

When I waste time looking at fabric, I put everything I like into the "shopping cart" the first two fabrics that I chose were the two large ones. I'm pretty sure of my color scheme for the living room/tv room.

My Kids and Constant "Helpers"

Lowe's has the best carts.

It's so much easier to go shopping when there are two adults.

Andrew will still sleep anywhere.

Lately Juliette has decided that staying in the cart is NO FUN. Being out of the cart is NO FUN for me.

At the Ferguson show room, I got some dirty looks, but they were contained and I could look without having to constantly reprimand Andrew.

My ghetto kids started out with both shoes on.

If I try something out, Andrew feels like he has to as well.
